Another adventure that was transcribed, almost word-for-word, from my childhood diary. i’m actually not sure i’m doing those priceless entries enough justice. i aspire to do better…
Well that was pointless.
The idea was, since Sarah’s been working 60 something hours a week and Andrea had her car broken into, they were otherwise occupied, so I’d take the opportunity to do a quick’n’dirty remix, extending Wes’ storyline a little and get some extra characterization. To accomplish this, I thought I would create a page completely digitally. Meaning I did a super sketchy thumbnail sketch in photoshop, then proceeded to refine it with a grey “pencil” layer, then perfect it with the usual black “ink” layer and colors.
Two weeks later, I’m finally putting it up.
Three days ago I got so frustrated by this process that I almost shut down the site and tossed Sarah’s laptop through window. Neither of which would have been smart. The laptop kept crashing. When it didn’t, I just wasn’t getting the results I wanted from the photoshop brushes. I redrew the thing like seven times, then as I was adding the text I realized the layout was too crowded and had to shrink a bunch of the images – in this case at least photoshop came in handy. A lot of time was taken up coloring the car and the playing with pattern filters. Also I rethought several lines of dialog, and switched up the punchline.
So now it’s done. Two weeks later. Here’s your damn quick one. Hope you like it.
Note: Sarah might post an actual quick one Thursday, and drastic measures may be taken next week to get two more comics up. Then again, we’ve been so busy with surprise Jack White Concerts and multiple weddings and car break-ins, who knows what will happen?
It’s a learning process.
Hey folks.
Fell a little behind. Logos got made, dishes got washed, cars got stolen. The usual.
I’m trying something new. Adding on in between the story that has already been drawn, by drawing in between the story. So “comic 13” will actually be “comic 11b” which will actually be drawn completely digitally, instead of my usual process of sketches and pencils and scans and digital inks. It’s obviously not any faster however. And I just started it today. So… friday maybe?
It seems that employers are always looking to get more work out of their employees. More tasks, more responsibilities, more things that they should hire a completely different person to do. Like, give that task to a specialist in that field, not to whoever happens to have a free second. And especially not if they most certainly were not trained to do that task, have no interest in that task, and are going to school to learn how to do something that is in no way related to that task.
I could easily rewrite this comic once a year, with different jobs, different bosses, different leisure activities they are sauntering off to enjoy.
So how ’bout last night’s episode of America’s Got Karaoke anyway? Who knew the country pop chick was going to do a selection from Tool’s Aenima? Sure confused the judges…
Sorry about missing the comic last week. Two thirds of us went up north to get drunk and blow shit up, and in all the packing and drinking and blowing up of things, it kinda slipped our minds.
As for this comic, I originally drew it a couple of years ago. I was going to post this like last year sometime during the worst winter in recorded history, but that would have involved getting this webcomic up and running in a reasonable timeframe, and we couldn’t have that, could we?
Still, even if it is in fact balls-ass hot outside, that shouldn’t stop you from looking your best. Or at least your self-consciously, ironically worst. Everyone needs a beardscarf. EVERYONE!
