Bonus Comic Couples Costume

Hey look, it’s a bonus comic! Posted almost two weeks late, and in lieu of two actual comics that progress the story, but a bonus comic nonetheless!

Halloween is my favorite holiday. Possibly because it’s a chance to be someone other than myself for awhile? When you’re in the throes of depression and just basically hate yourself, the lure of being someone else is very strong. Consequently, I go to a lot of trouble to make sure my costumes are as detailed and realistic as I can. Verisimilitude is the key. Usually put together from scratch, because every time I’ve bought one from a store I’ve been disappointed.

There is another comic done and was supposed to go up last week, but this simple, quick and dirty bonus comic wound up taking twice as long as it should yet again. See an upcoming blog post for more details about that, and the future direction of this webcomic.

Bad Dad

My dad was packing up things to move a few weeks ago, and stumbled across a goldmine of old drawings of mine from when i was a kid. This gem was one of many among that hoard.

It is an early work – judging by the raw emotion and crude linework – depicting the birth of victimization, and rejection of discipline. Note the traditional angelic “grass dress” garb, and the relevant shoulder pad wings (it was the tail end of the 80’s, after all).

The Cheerio halo, and throwing star hands, clearly illustrate the artist’s view of the consumerism of violence.

Ironically, i would eventually grow up to idolize the multifaceted and complexly moody superheroine, Raven, whose father is actually the devil.

Coincidence?

No, my friend. There are no coincidences in the world of fine art…

Comic 019 Thirsty Thursday

This was supposed to go up on Thursday but, well, you know.

It’s too bad I didn’t work in advertising in the 80’s because then it would have been hookers and cocaine, right? That’d be fun to draw.

The best long islands came from Stevie, who is sadly no longer at the WAB.

The most dangerous long islands came from Masha, who was probably let go for being too generous with her pour and inadvertently sending hundred of customers to the ER for dialysis.

Comic 018 Where Are You Going

Question: If a tree falls on my house and breaks my internets, does it make a horrendous earth shattering noise? Also there was a hawkfest that almost blew away. And of course I’m just very slow at this. But really the weather has sucked lately.

I wanted to post this one a couple weeks ago actually. And perhaps it’s missing some context, like another earlier comic of Fresa coming along with Wes and Altman and Wes feeling awkward, probably with a joke about Reservoir Dogs or something, but the way we mapped out the storyline there was no room for an extra comic here. Maybe I’ll add it to the extended cut?

Comic 017 Worms

A tree fell all on our house this week and broke our internets! It’s okay though, you’ll be relieved to hear we’re back in business now.

In this week’s installment, Sadie gets in trouble for relating to invertebrates on an emotional level.

Because worms have feelings, too.
